Biography
Alex Sutcliffe, BFA (2020), is an emerging visual artist based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Alex was born and raised in Chicago before moving to Ottawa at eleven years old. He has exhibited artwork throughout London, New York, Geneva, Toronto, and Halifax, including venues like Ottawa City Hall, the Art Museum at the University of Toronto and Art/Toronto.
Alex's work has been acknowledged by grants and awards, including finalist in the 2024 CIBC C2 Art Program and the Bank of Montréal’s 2020 1st Art! Competition. He has been awarded multiple grants from the Canada Council, including for Concept to Realization in 2023 and 2022, and Research and Creation in 2022 and 2021. Additionally he has received the 2019 Margo and Rowland Marshall Award for Painting, and twice the Robert Pope Foundation Painting Scholarship.
